It's pouring down!

Hi readers! It's been pouring down an awful lot of rain today, but just when I've sat down and started to look through today's pictures I see the sun. Better late than never I guess. A lot of people saw my book review, more than usually, so I just wanted to say that I really would appreciate some critic on it, by mail of commenting or however you choose!

About: Author Cassandra Fallows has achieved remarkable success by baring her life on the page. Her two widely popular memoirs continue to sell briskly, acclaimed for their brutal, unexpurgated candor about friends, family, lovers—and herself. But now, after a singularly unsuccessful stab at fiction, Cassandra believes she may have found the story that will enable her triumphant return to nonfiction.

When Cassandra was a girl, growing up in a racially diverse middle-class neighborhood in Baltimore, her best friends were all black: elegant, privileged Donna; sharp, shrewd Tisha; wild and worldly Fatima. A fifth girl orbited their world—a shy, quiet, unobtrusive child named Calliope Jenkins—who, years later, would be accused of killing her infant son. Yet the boy's body was never found and Calliope's unrelenting silence on the subject forced a judge to jail her for contempt. For seven years, Calliope refused to speak and the court was finally forced to let her go. Cassandra believes this still unsolved real-life mystery, largely unknown outside Baltimore, could be her next bestseller.

But her homecoming and latest journey into the past will not be welcomed by everyone, especially by her former friends, who are unimpressed with Cassandra's success—and are insistent on their own version of their shared history. And by delving too deeply into Calliope's dark secrets, Cassandra may inadvertently unearth a few of her own—forcing her to reexamine the memories she holds most precious, as the stark light of truth illuminates a mother's pain, a father's betrayal . . . and what really transpired on a terrible day that changed not only a family but an entire country.

My thoughts: I didn't like the book that much, it mostly goes on about Cassandra's childhood and friends, but mostly it's just boring. The parts about Calliope is the best, that is where you feel a bit of plot, but the rest basically just feels like a biography of a fictional character. I was waiting and waiting for a plot to form, but there's just a vague main-plot.

What I do like about the book is that the characters are very alive. Both Cassandra and her friends as children and adults feel like real people. Lippman manages to paint up a good picture of each character as different individuals. When you read about the characters as children and then as adults you can see how their personalities and background  made them do the choices they did.

In the beginning of the book, I feel a little thrown between characters and different stories but after some more chapters you get used to it. With a more powerful plot and a bit less of Cassandras thinking I would have been much happier. The language is nice and plain. She doesn't throw all the information in your face. I like it that way, if you don't get two pages of details you tend to remember much more. Lippman is building up these characters through out the whole book, letting you get to know them step by step and not all at once.

Looking for birds

Good evening! I went outside and shoot some photos yesterday, and here's the result of that. It's a bit of a funny story because there's a lot of little birds very close to my house that use to sit by the parking lot. I walked right by a bunch of them without my camera, came back a minute later with my camera and they where all gone. I could hear them but that was it. All I managed to do was taking this bad shoot at a couple of hiding birds. Today, they where there again, as always, but I didn't bother to go out and even try this time. Maybe another day? :)

Pretty sunrise(!)

Hi there! I woke up really early this morning and couldn't go back to sleep, so I was wide awake since 5AM. That's why a very, very rare thing happened - I shoot a photo of the sunrise. I kind of missed it, but you should be able to see the little pink streaks of sky in the far back of the photo. Today I also saw that my most liked posts where dose with cat pictures, so I decided to throw some in sine you seems to like 'em :)

Sleeping cat

Hello everyone! I'm sorry, I forgot about posting yesterday. I've been to school, church and done some homework today and I'm so sleepy. But I'm not the only one, both Maja and Tigra are sleeping in two of the beds and they barley moved when I shoot some pictures of them :)

Book Sunday?

Hi readers! This post is more about an idea I got from a mail than the photos, just to warn you if you don't like reading and only looks at the photos :) In the mail the other day, I got a request on starting a book series. I was thinking about that a lot (because I do, indeed, love to read) and to blog about books and photographing that is two thing I really enjoy doing, sounds like a good idea! Since I find Sundays a bit boring I thought that I would try and make some kind of book related post every other Sunday - Book Sunday.
If you don't think this is a good idea or have any suggestions about what those posts might be filled with, please send me a mail. If not I just want to say that the book posts most likely will be filled with mostly text and maybe a few pictures. I hope to be able to fulfil the request next week by reviewing Life Sentences by Laura Lippman! :)

Spring equinox

Hello! Today's the spring equinox (in Sweden). You could also see a solar eclipse today, around 10:45 AM if you where in Scandinavia or Great Britain. I didn't see it very well, but I saw a bit of it, when the moon moved back from the sun. I'm disappointed by the fact that it's been cloudy all day, but maybe tomorrow will feel more like spring.
In the spirit of spring equinox I decided to shoot some pictures of some cute Crocuses. These are now inside and in full bloom, compared to the cold little ones I shoot outside some days ago. Enjoy! :)

Sepia photos

Hello readers! I've got quite a bit of tests coming up this week and the next one, so for today's post, it got a bit random. All the photos are in sepia (that was me trying to make them less random) but I think that it ended pretty good. I'll post as usually but it might not be that many photos, but I'll do my best! Enjoy! :) I'm also working a tiny bit on a new design to the blog but I've not quite got the coding figured out, but I'm hoping to get it ready by May :D

Maja a spring evening!

Good evening guys! It's really becoming more and more spring-like over here. I hope you enjoy your weather as well! The cats love the slightly higher temperatures and the sun, they spend a lot more time outside now than they have done in a long time. But their extra winter fur falls of in tufts, so I'm glad they do that outside :) Today's photos is of Maja, as you might already have guessed. I shoot them a late afternoon/evening and the sun was just setting. She looks so adorable!

Spring warmth!

Hi everyone! As promised, here's some pictures from the outside world :) This whole week has been warm (very windy, but if you can see the sun it counts as warm) and little flowers have been popping up. I shoot the photos of these crocuses just before sunset and you can see that the light is a little bit uneven. That's due to the light being filtered through the trees not far from my house :)

Brownies & Ambrosia

Hello readers! I found some pictures of brownies and ambrosia cake that I'm going to share with you today. I was going to go outside to shoot some pictures in the shy, spring sun, but time just disappeared. This week and next is a little bit busy with some exams and I've studied a lot this week. Because of that I forgot going outside before it got dark :p Now it's really dark outside but I'm going to make an other attempt for the Friday post!

Bridge and water - 4

Hello readers! I wasn't thinking about doing a part four of the Bridge and water series but I found some photos I forgot to share with you all. Therefore, here's today's post, the last photos from the day before I got the flu. Yes, I think that's going to be the only thing I remember from that day... I hope you like it! :)

A summer memory #7

Hello! It's time for another summer memory. At first I was thinking about doing a whole lot different kind of post but then I went to some stores with a friend and then it just wasn't any time left. But I'm going to make that post, just not tonight. Now it's time to dream about warm grass, pretty sunsets and... kittens! This was from when Tigra was one/two months old and her siblings still where together with her. Weren't they all adorable?

Bridge and water - 3

Good evening everybody! It's (finally) time for the last part and the last photos from the day before I got the flu. I really enjoyed taking these photos, it's fun to go to a new place you haven't visited yet and to just see the unexplored possibilities everywhere! I really, really like that and hopefully I'll be able to do just that without getting sick next time. I hope you have a good day! :)

Maja and flu...

Hello everyone! I've not posted in ages, I feel like it's been far too long. But what I described as a "cold" for over a week ago turned out to be the horrendous flu. I've been very sick and now I think I'm having a normal cold on top of everything. It's just not been good and I haven't felt good the slightest. But now I'm back and I'm going to try and blog more than usually so maybe that can compensate for the week I was gone.
This photos is from the last Sunday in February, it was a very spring-like day and I just felt like it could be needed to post a little bit of these pictures. Maja was outside with me and she walked around in the sunshine and she was just so perfect! <3
